For this lesson, we investigated in the art of screen printing. For this, we were told to bring the work we did in the previous lesson (and our homework). we then proceeded to create 'exquisite corpses' with other people in the class, and when the drawing was complete, we could see what characters we had created, some were funny, some were cute and some were nightmare fuel. it was interesting as almost everything that was drawn was very different to how anyone imagined them to come out. We then proceeded to screenprint the designs onto paper, and then went back into the corpses to make them more of our own. To me, the practical was highly interesting and entertaining, as it allowed us to create things i wouldn't would been able to create just by myself. It also links very nicely toward the final project we are currently in the process of researching.

Week 3 Homework: Collage Tribe
Our homework for this week was essentially a continuation of what we started in the weeks lesson, we were briefed to create 3 more collage characters inspired by one of the people well created in the lesson, and use these four to create a tribe with these people, I chose the Party animal character, and made 3 more characters in stereotypical dancing poses, i liked the way his lemon was a head and wanted to use a theme of food to create their bodies. I restricted myself to only this, and because of that came up with some unusual designs, all different to how i originally planned. The tribe is called the 'fruity fresh dancing clan' and they communicate in dance moves, making them unique to all the other clans around them. They became a clan to hide away from the very dangerous human clan that eat fruit and food enmass. They feel that if they can stay together the human clan may feel to intimidated to come near and then they can continue to dance for many more years to come!
Lesson 3: Cutout Tribes
In our 3rd lesson, we were briefed to cut out various shapes, objects, and other things that interested us and create collage characters using this piece, while being sceptical at first at the idea, when we actually started i found it really fun and interesting, i especially like the way you sometimes created things that you didn't mean to create at first, and in addition to this, create many weird and wacky characters. i think that this is due to the fact that you are limited to various shapes and objects, something that you wouldn't be restricted to if you were using more traditional materials.
Lesson 2: Sketchbooks
For this lesson, we had an overview about sketchbooks and how they can differ from person to person, we then proceeded to learn how to make our own sketchbooks using various methods and materials. Many of the methods allowed the creator a lot more flexibility to the size, paper colour, and so on, which was nice, so if you like working on coloured paper, you could easily, and cheaply, create a sketchbook, to suit your needs.
Lesson 1: Paper cutouts
For our first lesson, we were given one (or in my case two) phobia and told to create a cut out illustration based upon this phobia, i was given the fear of eyes and the fear of prostitutes, for the fear of eyes there was lots of ways i could portray the concept, i ended up going with using the eyes as spotlights, bearing down on a figure, making the person feeling uncomfortable and exposed. I was happy with the design and the class crit seemed to agree, the design wasnt the most complicated, but i tried to make my cutout 3D, which is something that very few other people did. As for the fear of prostitutes, i only had 20 mins to complete this one, as opposed to the 1 1/2hours that i had for the eyes, so for this i went for a simple design as seem below and wanted to go for a comedic cut out, as the concept (to me at least) seems quite comical.
